apple dumpling recipe

These Apple Dumplings are warm, buttery, flaky, and made with cinnamon-spiced apples wrapped in dough and baked in a sweet caramel-like sauce. A cozy dessert that’s easy, comforting, and perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 can (8-count) refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup lemon-lime soda (Sprite or 7UP)
  • Optional: vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 or 9×13 baking dish.
  • 2. Peel and core apples, then cut each apple into 8 slices.
  • 3. Wrap each apple slice in a crescent dough triangle and place seam-side down in the baking dish.
  • 4. In a saucepan, melt butter, then whisk in sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla until combined.
  • 5. Pour the butter-sugar mixture evenly over the dumplings.
  • 6. Slowly pour the lemon-lime soda around the edges and between dumplings — not on top.
  • 7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  • 8. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • Use firm apples so they hold their shape.
  • Add a pinch of cardamom for deeper flavor.
  • The soda creates a caramel-like sauce don’t skip it!
  • Best served warm but reheats well in the microwave.
