Apple Kringle with Vanilla Glaze: Danish Bakery Magic at Home

A flaky Danish-style pastry filled with sweet cinnamon apples and finished with a drizzle of vanilla glaze a cozy and impressive treat for breakfast or dessert.

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 3 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • — Vanilla Glaze —
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • 2. In a skillet, melt butter and cook apples with brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until tender (about 5–7 minutes). Cool slightly.
  • 3. Place one puff pastry sheet on baking sheet. Spread apple filling down the center.
  • 4. Top with second puff pastry sheet, sealing edges with a fork. Cut slits across the top for venting.
  • 5. Brush with beaten egg for golden color.
  • 6. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  • 7. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make glaze.
  • 8. Drizzle glaze over cooled Kringle and slice to serve.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add chopped pecans or walnuts to the apple filling.
  • Best enjoyed warm with a cup of coffee or tea.
  • You can prepare the apple filling ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.
