Baklava Muffins: Easy Mediterranean Sweet Pastry Treats

Baklava Muffins combine the nutty, spiced sweetness of classic baklava with the soft, fluffy texture of muffins. A perfect handheld treat with honey, walnuts, and warm spices baked right in.

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup walnuts or pistachios, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  • 2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • 3. In another bowl, whisk together melted butter, eggs, milk (or yogurt), and vanilla.
  • 4. Fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  • 5. Gently stir in chopped nuts, honey, and orange zest.
  • 6. Divide batter evenly into muffin cups, filling about 3/4 full.
  • 7. Bake 18–22 minutes, until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • 8. Cool slightly, drizzle with extra honey if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a pistachio version, substitute walnuts with pistachios.
  • These muffins pair beautifully with coffee or tea.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
