Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the pans: Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  4. Cream the butter and sugar: In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
  6. Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.
  7. Color your mixture: Add food coloring if desired and mix to incorporate.
  8. Pour the batter: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  9. Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  10. Cool: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  11. Frost: Frost and decorate the cooled cakes with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing and baking results. Don’t overmix the batter to avoid a dense cake.
