Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 chocolate cake, baked and cut into cubes (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 cup chocolate shavings or curls (for garnish)
  • Optional: 2 tbsp kirsch (cherry liqueur) for authentic flavor

Instructions

  • 1. Bake or prepare your chocolate cake and let it cool completely.
  • 2. In a large bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  • 3. If using kirsch, drizzle it over the cake cubes for extra flavor.
  • 4. In a large trifle dish, layer one-third of the cake cubes at the bottom.
  • 5. Spoon a layer of cherry pie filling over the cake.
  • 6. Add a layer of whipped cream and spread evenly.
  • 7. Repeat layers two more times until the dish is filled.

Notes

  • You can substitute the cherry pie filling with fresh pitted cherries when in season.
