- 1 chocolate cake, baked and cut into cubes (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
- 1/4 cup chocolate shavings or curls (for garnish)
- Optional: 2 tbsp kirsch (cherry liqueur) for authentic flavor
- 1. Bake or prepare your chocolate cake and let it cool completely.
- 2. In a large bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- 3. If using kirsch, drizzle it over the cake cubes for extra flavor.
- 4. In a large trifle dish, layer one-third of the cake cubes at the bottom.
- 5. Spoon a layer of cherry pie filling over the cake.
- 6. Add a layer of whipped cream and spread evenly.
- 7. Repeat layers two more times until the dish is filled.
- 8. Top with extra whipped cream, cherry filling, and chocolate shavings.
- 9. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving for best flavor.
Notes
- You can substitute the cherry pie filling with fresh pitted cherries when in season.
- For a lighter version, use Greek yogurt instead of whipped cream.
