- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

- 1/2 cup vegetable oil

- 1/2 cup hot water or coffee

- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup blackberry purée
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

- 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
- 2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- 3. In another bowl, beat eggs, sugar, buttermilk, oil, melted butter, vanilla, and blackberry purée until combined.
- 4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing just until smooth.
- 5. Stir in hot water or coffee until batter is slightly thin.
- 6. Divide batter between pans and bake 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- 7. Cool cakes completely before frosting.
- 8. Prepare buttercream: beat butter until fluffy, add powdered sugar gradually, then mix in blackberry purée, vanilla, and salt.
- 9. Frost cooled cakes and garnish with fresh blackberries.
