  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare the dry ingredients by whisking together flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Incorporate the buttermilk and vanilla extract into the mixture.
  6. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until just mixed.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Prepare the frosting by beating cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth, then add heavy cream and beat until fluffy.
  10. Frost the cooled cakes with the prepared cream cheese frosting.
