- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F / 43°C)
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup baking soda (for boiling)
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt, for topping
- 2 tbsp melted butter, for brushing
- 1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- 2. Stir in salt, melted butter, and flour. Mix until dough forms, then knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- 5. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then add baking soda.
- 6. Punch down dough and divide into 6 pieces. Roll each into a rope and cut into 1-inch bites.
- 7. Boil pretzel bites in the baking soda water for 30 seconds, a few at a time, then remove with a slotted spoon.
- 8. Place on prepared baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- 9. Bake 10–12 minutes, or until deep golden brown.
- 10. Brush warm pretzels with melted butter and serve immediately.
Notes
- Serve warm with cheese dip, mustard, or ranch.
- For a sweet version, toss baked bites in cinnamon sugar instead of salt.
- These freeze well — reheat in the oven or air fryer to crisp back up.
