This Chocolate Espresso Banana Bread is a moist, rich, and decadent twist on classic banana bread infused with deep espresso flavor and melty chocolate chunks. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an afternoon pick-me-up!

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup melted butter or coconut oil
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp instant espresso powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips or chunks

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • 2. In a large bowl, whisk together mashed bananas, melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, espresso powder, and vanilla until smooth.
  • 3. In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • 4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
  • 5. Fold in sour cream and chocolate chips, being careful not to overmix.
  • 6. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  • 7. Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.
  • 8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra coffee flavor, drizzle with espresso glaze or top with a sprinkle of espresso powder before baking.
  • Store leftovers wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
