- 8 thick slices brioche or challah bread
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Butter, for cooking
- For the coating:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1. In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla extract until smooth.
- 2. Spread the cream cheese mixture on 4 slices of bread and top with remaining slices to make sandwiches.
- 3. In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, and vanilla.
- 4. Dip each stuffed sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides well.
- 5. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt a little butter.
- 6. Cook each sandwich 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- 7. In a shallow bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon for coating.
- 8. Brush cooked French toast with melted butter, then roll in cinnamon sugar.
- 9. Slice and serve warm with syrup, caramel drizzle, or whipped cream.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for the best texture it soaks the custard without getting soggy.
- Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra flavor.
- Top with fresh berries or dulce de leche for a dessert-style twist.
