Classic Snickerdoodles: How to Make Perfect Cinnamon Sugar Cookies

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • 2. In a bowl, beat butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until fluffy.
  • 3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well.
  • 4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  • 5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet and mix until combined.
  • 6. In a small bowl, mix 2 tbsp cinnamon and 3 tbsp sugar.
  • 7. Roll dough into 1-inch balls, then roll in cinnamon sugar.
  • 8. Place balls on baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  • 9. Cool on wire racks.

Notes

  • Use cream of tartar for authentic texture and tang.
  • Store in airtight container up to 5 days.
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg for subtle warmth.
  • Great with a glass of milk or tea.
