Crispy Creamy Chicken Cordon Bleu

  • Chicken:
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices ham
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
  • Oil or butter for frying or baking

  • Creamy Sauce:
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  • 2. Slice each chicken breast horizontally to create a pocket.
  • 3. Season chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • 4. Stuff each breast with one slice of ham and one slice of Swiss cheese. Secure with toothpicks if needed.
  • 5. Set up breading station: flour in one bowl, whisked eggs with milk in another, breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan in a third.
  • 6. Dredge chicken in flour, dip in egg mixture, then coat in breadcrumbs.
  • 7. Heat oil or butter in a skillet and brown chicken on all sides until golden.
  • 8. Transfer chicken to baking dish and bake 20–25 minutes until cooked through.
  • 9. Meanwhile, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute.
  • 10. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and thickened.
  • 11. Stir in Dijon mustard, Parmesan, salt, and pepper.
  • 12. Remove toothpicks, spoon sauce over chicken, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
  • Air fry at 375°F for 15–18 minutes for a lighter version.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, green beans, or a simple salad.
