Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Babka French Toast Bake Recipe

Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Babka French Toast Bake layers rich chocolate-pistachio babka in a vanilla custard, then tops it with crunchy kataifi, pistachio cream, and melted chocolate for an over-the-top brunch casserole inspired by Dubai chocolate French toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Bake:
  • 12 slices chocolate pistachio babka, about 1-inch thick
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1½ cups whole milk or almond milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Chocolate pistachio topping:
  • 1 cup kataifi pastry or shredded filo
  • 3 tbsp butter melted
  • ½ cup pistachio cream
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • To finish:
  • ¼ cup warm pistachio cream
  • 2 tbsp chopped pistachios
  • Melted chocolate or chocolate sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  • 1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange babka slices in a snug, even layer.
  • 2. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth. Pour evenly over babka, pressing gently so every slice soaks. Let sit 20–30 minutes or cover and chill overnight.
  • 3. Make topping: toast kataifi with melted butter in a skillet over medium heat until golden and crisp, 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in pistachio cream and chocolate chips until coated.
  • 4. Scatter half of the kataifi chocolate pistachio mixture over the soaked babka.
  • 5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–45 minutes, until the custard is set in the center and the top is lightly golden.
  • 6. While it bakes, toast any remaining kataifi in a bit of butter until crisp.
  • 7. Cool 5–10 minutes. Top with warm pistachio cream, remaining crunchy kataifi, chopped pistachios, and a drizzle of melted chocolate. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Using chocolate pistachio babka gives instant Dubai chocolate bar flavor.
  • Overnight soak = ultra-custardy, bread-pudding-style French toast texture.
  • Kataifi adds that classic crunchy Middle Eastern pastry element.
  • Use almond milk for a subtle nutty note that complements pistachio.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or thick Greek yogurt for brunch-dessert vibes.
