French Apple Invisible Cake

This elegant French Apple Invisible Cake features layers of thinly sliced apples held together by a light, custardy batter delicate, naturally sweet, and perfect for fall.

  • 4 large apples (Honeycrisp or Golden Delicious)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch loaf or round pan.
  • 2. In a bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar until light and frothy.
  • 3. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract; whisk to combine.
  • 4. Sift in flour, baking powder, and salt; mix until smooth.
  • 5. Peel, core, and thinly slice apples using a mandoline or sharp knife.
  • 6. Fold apple slices gently into the batter, coating each piece evenly.
  • 7. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and press down lightly to flatten.
  • 8. Bake 35–40 minutes, until golden and set in the center.
  • 9. Cool completely before unmolding and dusting with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • For a caramel twist, drizzle warm caramel sauce before serving.
  • Best served chilled or at room temperature.
