Ingredients

Scale
  • Brownie Layer:
  • 1 (18 oz) box fudge brownie mix
  • Ingredients called for on box (typically 2 eggs, ¼ cup water, ⅔ cup oil)
  • French Silk Filling:
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, melted & cooled
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • Whipped Topping:
  • 1½ cups heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • Chocolate shavings

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Prepare brownie mix according to package directions. Pour batter into dish, bake 25-30 minutes until toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Cool completely.
  • 2. For French silk: Beat butter and sugar 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy. Add cooled melted chocolate and vanilla, beat 1 minute. Add eggs one at a time, beating 3 minutes after each on high speed (10 minutes total). Spread smoothly over cooled brownies. Refrigerate 2 hours.
  • 3. Beat heavy cream and powdered sugar to stiff peaks. Spread over chilled filling. Garnish with chocolate shavings. Refrigerate 1 hour before slicing.

Notes

  • Room temperature eggs + high-speed mixing creates silky texture.
  • Beat 10 minutes total for filling transforms from grainy to glossy.
  • Don’t skip cooling brownie completely or filling melts.
  • Freeze up to 2 months; thaw overnight in refrigerator.
  • Use good chocolate impacts flavor significantly.
