- Dough:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 2 tbsp fresh orange juice
- Filling:
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 tsp orange zest
- Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp fresh orange juice
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and cardamom.
- 2. Add warm milk, melted butter, egg, orange zest, and orange juice. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- 3. Knead dough 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
- 4. Roll dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- 5. Spread softened butter over dough. Mix brown sugar, cardamom, and orange zest, then sprinkle evenly over butter.
- 6. Fold dough lengthwise, then cut into strips. Twist each strip and place into a greased loaf pan or braid into a twist shape.
- 7. Cover and let rise 30 minutes.
- 8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes until golden.
- 9. Whisk glaze ingredients and drizzle over warm bread before serving.
