OREO Dirt Cake Recipe

OREO Dirt Cake is a classic no-bake dessert featuring layers of crushed Oreo cookies resembling dirt, creamy vanilla pudding mixed with cream cheese and Cool Whip, and optional gummy worms for fun. Perfect for kids’ parties, Halloween, or any occasion calling for nostalgic layered sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (14.3 oz) package Oreo cookies (about 36 cookies)
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3½ cups cold whole milk
  • 2 (3.4 oz) packages instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 8 oz Cool Whip, thawed
  • Gummy worms (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • 1. Crush all Oreo cookies (with cream filling) into fine crumbs using a food processor or rolling pin in a zip-top bag. Reserve ½ cup crumbs for topping; set aside.
  • 2. In a large bowl, beat softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy (1-2 minutes).
  • 3. In a separate bowl, whisk pudding mix with cold milk for 2 minutes until thickened. Fold pudding into cream cheese mixture until combined, then gently fold in Cool Whip until no white streaks remain.
  • 4. In a 9×13-inch dish or trifle bowl, spread ¼ of the pudding mixture evenly. Sprinkle with ⅓ of the remaining Oreo crumbs. Repeat layers, ending with pudding layer.
  • 5. Sprinkle reserved Oreo crumbs over top to resemble dirt. Add gummy worms if desired. Refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.

Notes

  • Keep Oreo cream filling intact—it adds sweetness and helps crumbs stick together.
  • Chill pudding mixture at least 4 hours for clean slices; overnight is best.
  • Use instant pudding only—cook-and-serve won’t set properly in this no-bake recipe.
  • Trifle bowl shows beautiful layers; 9×13 pan works for easy serving.
  • Make ahead up to 2 days. Covers well and flavors improve after chilling.
