Outback Steakhouse Bloomin Fried Chicken

A homemade version of the beloved Bloomin Fried Chicken featuring juicy chicken with a spicy, crunchy coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb. Boneless Chicken Breast (sliced, pounded)
  • ½ Cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Buttermilk
  • 3 Tablespoons Oil (for frying)
  • 2 Teaspoons Seasoned Salt
  • 1½ Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • ¼ Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ¼ Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 Cup Water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Start by taking the boneless chicken breasts and slicing them into manageable pieces if they are not already sliced. Once sliced, use a rolling pin to pound the chicken until it is flattened.
  2. Make the Buttermilk Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of buttermilk with a splash of water. Stir it well to combine.
  3. Prepare the Dry Coating: In another bowl, mix together ½ cup of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of seasoned salt, ¼ teaspoon of black pepper, ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder, 1½ teaspoons of cayenne pepper, and 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika.
  4. Coat the Chicken: Begin the coating process by dipping each piece of flattened chicken into the dry mixture first, then into the buttermilk mixture, and finally back into the dry coating.
  5. Prepare to Fry: Place the coated chicken pieces on a wire rack to allow any excess coating to fall off before frying.
  6. Fry the Chicken: Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the pan and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying.
