Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls

Delicious and visually stunning Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls, combining the rich flavor of red velvet cake with warm, cozy cinnamon rolls.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 package cream cheese (8 oz)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  3. Prepare the buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract in another bowl.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, stirring gently until a dough forms.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Add softened butter over the rolled-out dough, then sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon over the top.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 1-inch slices.
  8. Prepare a baking dish by greasing it lightly and arrange the slices, letting them rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until puffed and a lovely shade of red.
  10. Make the glaze by beating cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  11. Glaze the warm rolls with the cream cheese mixture immediately after they come out of the oven.
  12. Serve the rolls warm, optionally with fresh fruits or toppings.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container. For longer storage, refrigerate or freeze wrapped rolls.
