  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • Filling:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp rose water
  • 12 tbsp milk

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • 2. In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • 3. Beat in egg, vanilla extract, rose water, and red food coloring.
  • 4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • 5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until dough forms.
  • 6. Scoop small portions of dough and roll into balls; place on baking sheet and flatten slightly.
  • 7. Bake for 9–11 minutes until set; cool completely.
  • 8. For the filling, beat butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar, vanilla, rose water, and milk until creamy.
  • 9. Spread filling onto half the cookies and sandwich with remaining cookies.

Notes

  • Rose water is strong use sparingly and adjust to taste.
  • Chill cookies briefly before filling for cleaner sandwiching.
  • Cookies keep well refrigerated for up to 4 days.
