Sweet and Spicy Honey Pepper Chicken

Crispy fried chicken tossed in a sticky, sweet, and spicy honey pepper glaze the ultimate comfort food with a kick of heat!

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the honey pepper sauce:
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  • 1. Marinate chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
  • 2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • 3. Dredge marinated chicken in the flour mixture, coating well.
  • 4. Heat oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C) and fry chicken until golden and crispy, about 5–6 minutes per batch.
  • 5. In a small saucepan, melt butter, then stir in honey, soy sauce, vinegar, black pepper, and chili flakes.
  • 6. Simmer the sauce for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  • 7. Toss fried chicken in the honey pepper sauce until coated evenly.
  • 8. Serve immediately with rice, mashed potatoes, or a side salad.

Notes

  • For extra heat, add more chili flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Bake or air fry the chicken for a lighter version.
  • Great for meal prep keep sauce separate until serving for best texture.
