Wonton Soup Recipe

A comforting classic Chinese wonton soup with delicate chicken-filled wontons simmered in a light, savory broth. Simple, soothing, and perfect for a cozy meal or appetizer.

  • Wontons:
  • 1/2 lb ground chicken
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper
  • 3035 wonton wrappers
  • Soup:
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, lightly smashed
  • Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Optional: bok choy or spinach

Instructions

  • 1. In a bowl, mix ground chicken, green onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and white pepper until combined.
  • 2. Place 1 teaspoon filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.
  • 3. Moisten edges with water, fold into triangles, and seal, bringing corners together.
  • 4. Bring a pot of water to a gentle boil and cook wontons in batches for 3–4 minutes until they float.
  • 5. Meanwhile, heat chicken broth in another pot with soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic.
  • 6. Remove garlic and ginger from broth.
  • 7. Add cooked wontons to the broth and simmer 1–2 minutes.
  • 8. Add greens if using and cook until wilted.
  • 9. Serve hot, garnished with green onions.

Notes

  • Freeze uncooked wontons for later use.
  • Use shrimp or chicken filling for variation.
  • Add chili oil for a spicy finish.
