Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Cinnamon sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apple cider: Pour 2 cups of apple cider into a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Reduce it until it cooks down to about 1 cup, then let it cool.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut pan.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, mix the reduced apple cider, sour cream, eggs, and melted butter until smooth.
  5. Combine the wet and dry mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  6. Fill the donut pan: Fill each cavity halfway with the batter.
  7. Bake the donuts for 12-15 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  8. Cool and coat: Allow cooling in the pan before rolling in cinnamon sugar.
  9. Serve warm, paired with coffee or cider.

Notes

Use fresh apple cider for best flavor. Donuts taste best when enjoyed warm.
