Baked Ziti

A comforting and hearty Italian-American dish made with ziti pasta, cheese, and savory meat sauce.

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water for 8-10 minutes until al dente, then drain.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat, then add the ground beef or Italian sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the marinara sauce and heat through for about 5 minutes.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with the egg, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper until well combined.
  6. Layer half of the cooked ziti in a baking dish, then top with half of the meat sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture. Repeat the layers.
  7. Sprinkle the top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

Let the Baked Ziti rest for 10 minutes before serving for better slicing.
