Homemade Chili

A warm and hearty homemade chili, perfect for chilly days or gatherings. Customize the spices and ingredients to suit your taste.

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Start by gathering all your ingredients and chopping the onion and green bell pepper. Mince the garlic as well.
  2. Cook the meat: In a large pot, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef or turkey. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring until browned.
  3. Add vegetables: Once the meat is browned, add the diced onion, minced garlic, and chopped bell pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes until softened.
  4. Season the mixture: After the vegetables are cooked down, add the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir and let cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add beans and tomatoes: Pour in the can of diced tomatoes (with juice), kidney beans, and black beans. Stir well to combine.
  6. Add broth: Pour in the beef or vegetable broth, stirring to incorporate with other ingredients.
  7. Simmer the chili: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover the pot and let simmer for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Taste and adjust: After simmering, taste your chili and adjust seasonings if necessary.
  9. Serve: Allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Chili can be served with toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, and fresh cilantro. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or freeze for longer storage.
