Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

A comforting dish of tender potatoes layered with rich cream and melted cheese, perfect for family gatherings and holiday dinners.

  • 4 large potatoes, sliced thinly
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Gruyère, or a blend)
  • 2 cups heavy cream or milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Fresh herbs (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the baking dish by greasing it with butter.
  3. Mix the heavy cream or milk, minced garlic, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish.
  5. Add a portion of the cream mixture over the first layer of potatoes.
  6. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the potato layer.
  7. Repeat the process with the remaining sliced potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 40 minutes.
  9. Uncover and bake for an additional 20 minutes until the cheese is golden.
  10. Cool slightly before serving and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

Can be prepared a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
