Chocolate Overload Doughnuts

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chocolate pastry cream (for filling)
  • Chocolate glaze
  • Chocolate sprinkles or chocolate doughnut crumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a doughnut pan.
  2. Combine the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract in another bowl.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
  5. Fill each cavity of the greased doughnut pan halfway with the batter.
  6. Bake the doughnuts for 10-12 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the doughnuts in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  8. Fill each doughnut with chocolate pastry cream using a piping bag.
  9. Dip the tops of the filled doughnuts into the chocolate glaze.
  10. Sprinkle chocolate sprinkles or crumbs on top and let the glaze set.

Notes

Store doughnuts in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days or in the refrigerator for about a week. Warm briefly in the microwave before serving if refrigerated.
