Crispy Ground Beef Tacos

Delicious and easy-to-prepare crispy ground beef tacos, perfect for family gatherings and customizing with your favorite toppings.

  • 1 pound 90/10 ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth (as needed)
  • Salt to taste (as needed)
  • 8 (6 inch) taco size flour tortillas
  • 2 to 3 cups mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • Avocado or vegetable oil
  • Fresh cilantro (finely chopped, garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Skillet: Start by heating about 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook the Onions: Add the finely chopped onions into the hot oil. Sauté for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef and break it into small pieces. Cook for about 4 to 5 minutes until browned.
  4. Add Tomato Paste and Seasoning: Mix in the tomato paste and taco seasoning.
  5. Add Liquid: If dry, stir in water or beef broth, cooking for an additional 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Season: Taste the filling and add salt as needed.
  7. Cool the Filling: Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
  8. Assemble the Tacos: Place a tortilla, sprinkle cheese, add filling, and top with more cheese.
  9. Fold and Seal: Fold the tortilla over the filling and press to seal.
  10. Transfer to Baking Sheet: Place assembled tacos on a baking sheet.
  11. Pan Fry the Tacos: Heat oil and cook tacos in batches until golden brown and crispy.
  12. Cool on Rack: Use a wire rack to keep them crispy as they cook.
  13. Garnish and Serve: Optionally garnish with cilantro and serve hot.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. Reheat in an oven to regain crispness.
