Empanada Dough

A simple and versatile recipe for making homemade empanada dough, perfect for various savory or sweet fillings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, to form a ball.
  4. Refrigerate the dough wrapped in plastic for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.
  6. Cut into circles with a diameter of 4 to 6 inches.
  7. Fill with desired filling and seal the edges.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes or fry until golden brown.

Notes

For best results, keep all ingredients cold and avoid overworking the dough. Experiment with different fillings based on your preference.
