Homemade Stovetop Macaroni and Cheese

A quick and easy dish that combines creamy cheese and tender elbow macaroni, perfect for a comforting meal.

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil: Start by pouring 4 cups of water into a large pot. Heat the pot on the stove until the water comes to a rolling boil.
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni: Once the water is boiling, add in the 2 cups of elbow macaroni. Cook according to package instructions, typically about 7-10 minutes.
  3. Drain the macaroni: After cooking, carefully drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.
  4. Melt the butter: In the same pot, lower the heat to medium and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Allow it to melt completely.
  5. Combine with macaroni: Add the cooked macaroni back into the pot with the melted butter and stir to coat.
  6. Add the cheeses: Stir in 1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese until melted and creamy.
  7. Stir in the milk: Pour in 1/2 cup of milk and mix until everything is well combined.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste: Stir well to ensure even seasoning.
