- 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
- 2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
- 3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- 4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
- 5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk until smooth.
- 6. Mix in food coloring to desired shade.
- 7. Divide batter evenly between pans.
- 8. Bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- 9. Cool cakes completely.
- 10. Beat butter for frosting until creamy.
